Really? How can you hate Bariel? He seemed so sweet. Sometimes I'm glad I watched DS9 way before I got into internet fandom.

I think it is because they found him boring and really, really liked Odo/Kira. I liked Odo/Kira, but I liked Bariel too.

This. I liked Odo/Kira, but I hated it when they killed off Bariel just as it seemed they were inching towards something between her and Kira. I think for the longest I took his death out on Kai Winn as she had forced him to make those negotiations with the Cardassians which lead ultimately to his death.

Blaming things on Kai Winn is a good life choice on general principle.

I like him too. I think he and Kira are good together, and I hated him dying (although the moral quandary of that episode was really interesting to me).
