You're probably right, but I wanted to give the OP the benefit of the doubt.

Personally, I just wave my flag, eat my hotdog, and roll my eyes at anyone who says anything bad about my country.

well, I mean, there are some bad things that can be said about the country with justice. Although it's hard not to get kind of defensive about even those things, when it's said by someone from another country.

There are lots of things that can be said about us. We're shallow, thick, apt to overreact, hypocritical, and our politicians are usually terrible. But if you say all that, then you also have to say that we're generous, forgiving, tough as nails, and our politicians are usually terribly funny.

Trouble is, most people say the first set without mentioning the second. Or they act like we're the worst plague to hit the earth since Moses and the Pharaoh squared off. Either way, I feel justified in ignoring a good chunk of the criticism leveled at my country.

We have a military empire and are considerably behind other western countries in terms of human rights. I'd say at least a good chunk of the criticism the US gets is justified.

And we treat a nice big chunk of our citizens and pretty much everyone living here who's not a citizen like crap most of the time, while talking big talk about being 'the land of the free," while not mentioning that it's really 'free to starve and die of easily preventable diseases because taxes are of the devil."

And ironically it's not like we're free of taxes...we just spend them really, really badly.
