But it's the loud example, and the one that gets angry if you act differently, so it's the one that gets all the attention. Like with any group, really.

Too true. But another American really should know better than to believe that is the true face of patriotism.

My cringe is less about it being the "true face" and more "Ugh, these are the people representing me to the rest of the planet. Please make them go away."

People in generally should really know better. Especially since, whatever group somebody is in, they're most likely going to be some extremist that make them look bad.

When pointed out, they'll say, "No, no! That's not really what we're like! It's just the loud, obnoxious ones."

But they'll gladly point out the loud, obnoxious ones of a group they don't like and say, "See, see how all those people act there?"
