I'm failing to see the difference between a straight character suddenly getting it on with a guy and a gay character suddenly getting it on with a girl. It's basically the same thing.

That said, stuff/plots/characters change when you're writing. If the writer is posting something while writing it, there's not going to be any heads up because they'll be just as surprised as you are about various plot twists. If you want your pairings set in stone from the outset, read fics that are already finished and entirely posted or entirely finished and being posted a chapter at a time.

I understand that people might be upset about this considering there are so few gay character and then turning them straight might count as erasure while the same cannot be said for straight characters turning gay. Considering that bisexuality exists, though, I don't see as much of a problem.
