Although I think that the jilted dude only became the embodiment of Death, one of the Horsemen because of his hatred for Crane. That gave Moloch something to work with. He could have chosen another to become Death but used someone who hated the destined Witness. Death is its' own entity but needed a human form.

That does present a problem for Moloch, though: Death wants to kill Crane, but Moloch doesn't want him killed (at least not yet). And yes, this HAS come up on the show; Death tried to kill Crane and had to be stopped. Really good job picking your avatar for Death, dude.
