In terms of subverted canon dynamics to suit personal wishes/tastes/preferences, it's literally the exact same thing.

The only reason it seems different is because of the (rather deranged at times) ranting surrounding certain orientations. (Although why anyone would want to waste time precisely ranking various orientations against each other, much less try to impose their personal ranking on others, is beyond me.)

But then, I'm a glass is half-full sort of person. I pretty much always assume that, unless there's clear evidence otherwise, there isn't malicious intent or homophobia or whatever afoot. They just prefer something that I don't care for and I'm cool with that.

I suppose that in that sense, it is the same thing so I understand where you're coming from.

Yeah, I'm usually cynical, but I will agree that unless there is clear evidence to the contrary, I don't automatically assume they're homophobic for shipping a gay character with someone of the opposite gender.
