This is amusing to me, because I'm thinking about a scenario where Cinderella thought her stepmother was some kind of monster, and the stepmother thought Cinderella was just a whiny goldbricker, but really it was just lots of bits of both and neither, and everyone involved was being kind of a tool. But really, it was all just a big misunderstanding, so they hug it out or something.

Someone should start writing really anticlimactic reworkings of folktales. :P

Semi-related: one of the things I liked about YU+ME: dream was that Fiona's stepmother was truthfully a decent woman who was trying her best. (one of the things I liked less was that there was no followup to that reveal, but hey! at least it got a mention)
