I did expect it a bit, a few more moments of levity and an overall cheerier attitude, but there was way too much to me. The troll scene dragged on forever, then all that Benny Hill running around with Radagast, the wargs and the Dwarf party, and I still don't know why there was a Disney musical singing number while cleaning.

The singing and acrobatic cleaning up was from the book. Unless you're asking why they chose to keep it for the movie.

thank god you didn't see the extended edition. the goblin king's song was just "we left Middle-earth and ended up at a rock concert" levels of atrocious.
