Are you any good at networking?

Given what a critical skill it is, it's a dang shame how little we actually tell people about it's importance.

I am, I easily make new acquaintances and I express myself in a way that makes people listen and trust me... In day to day life it means I get great service, my classmates asks me questions and listens to my advice. Shopkeepers*, the employees at my university and bus drivers know me and if I forget my bus card and stuff they let it go because they remember me and trust that I am telling the truth. When I was younger my friends parents always asked me about our plans and how/when we would get back and stuff. I just seem like one of those people who have control over my life and so on (even if that is as far from the truth as it can get)

I'm not great at making real friends though**, but I have the skillset that means I get noticed in a positive way, and I have at least once gotten a full time job because I was liked by the boss over the fact that I was the most qualified.

*Was that even the right word?
**I live a life that isn't entirely normal, and I never know how much and when I should share it with people, and sometimes my life gets too much and they back off. Which I understand, but it is just as awful every time it happens.

wow that got away from me, I don't think I have ever said that much positive stuff about myself in one go... That was weird, now I will go to a corner and remember all the things I am awful at

Quality personal sites reccs

I am bizarrely good at networking. To the point where I don't even realize that I'm a.) doing it or b.) good at it. I got a job at a well-known private university because I had a friend who worked there who knew the quality of my work, and I got another job in a Chinese university because I tutored a Chinese girl in English during my first year of grad school.

And I agree with you that it's incredibly important. I never would have gotten these opportunities without having made these connections.

In very small doses. I can maintain connections for four years max after I change jobs, and then I forget everyone I've ever met along with what the do.
