Ew, sucks about your boss's husband, especially if you have no idea why he has it in for you. Hopefully she doesn't take his opinion into account since she's the one making the decisions, and seems to like you just fine.

Not too sure the boss doesn't take her husband's opinion into account. For such a strong woman, she's kind of... well, quite sexist. As in, "machista". And since she's almost due in her pregnancy (and it seems to be a difficult pregnancy), there's seldomly a day nothing goes wrong /and/ she's in a good mood. It's getting hard to find a moment to talk to her calmly about the contract without that guy.

I've never heard "machista". Is it like the female equivalent of machismo, or is it internalized misogyny/contributing to male machismo?

"Machista" refers to a person of any gender who is sexist explicitly with a bias towards seeing male individuals as superior. In my boss's case, it'd mean "internalized misoginy".

Usage:
Él es machista, ella es machista, ellos son machistas... (etc)

AFAIK, "sexista" in Spanish just means "a person with a gender bias" regardless of which gender said person is favoring (though it's usually used to convey bias towards male power), while "machista" is specifically "a person with a gender bias towards male power".

Ah, ok. So "machista" basically refers to anyone who is full of machismo.

Kind of ironic that she's your boss and is working (full-time?) while pregnant if she feels that way.

Very annoying attitude imo.

... Yeah, I don't get it either. She doesn't work at the café except to come at the closing to check if the money on the cash register matches the daily sales; but she does work from home full-time while pregnant. I've known her from before I started working there (I used to be a regular customer, actually); and she always looked like such a strong woman to me :o Like someone who wouldn't take shit from anyone. People are weird.
