Tell me of your cross-stitching (she said, not intending to sound sarcastic but suspecting that she did). I'm just starting to get interested in it again after not doing any for years, and I'm interested in hearing other people talk about it.

I'm not that great at it, haha. I have done some small pieces, but nothing huge yet. Like a cat, a pillow case, and some other bits. I'm not an expert, so I'm not sure what you'd like to hear. Sorry!

As I'm learning myself, I try and take my time. Doing cross-stitch with patterns already on the material is great for beginners or relearning as well.

Is there anything you want me to expand on? (Idk what to say, sorry!)

Oh, I wasn't necessarily looking for advice. It was just more of a "Oh hey, you like [thing]! I'm remembering how much I like [thing]! Hooray for [thing]!" I mostly stick to the kits where everything's been charted and pre-counted, but my mom got me hooked on the really fancy ones of those with, like, thirty or so colors each. The only problem is, after I've done them I don't really know what to do with them, so I just have a stack of them neatly laid out in a drawer somewhere.

Precharted and counted is my type of cross stitching as well. I haven't done any super fancy ones yet. They still scare me, haha. I guess you could put them on your wall? Give them to friends or family for Christmas? Ones with sayings or are more intricate in nature would make good gifts, I'd think. None of my friends cross stitch, so maybe when I finish one I'm happy with, I'll give it to them.

What type of designs are your favs? I like animals and flowers. I have one I need to do where it's a trellis with flowers and it's super pretty.

Heh, the fancy ones don't scare me because I kind of got thrown into the deep end. I did a little seven-color wall hanging when I was about ten or eleven and really enjoyed doing it, so my mom bought me another kit for Christmas. A Dimensions Gold Collection kit. With about forty colors, metallic thread, and blending filament. Since it didn't occur to her that it would be difficult to do -- she'd just picked a picture she thought I'd like -- it didn't occur to me that it would be difficult.

I am less about liking specific designs and more about liking styles, although I seem to gravitate towards animals and fantasy stuff. I like the ones where the shading gets really intricate, especially on things like fabric and feathers. I did one years ago of an angel carrying a fawn with various other animals surrounding her, which is more sentimental than my usual preference, but I couldn't pass it up because her wings and hands were so detailed. The one I just restarted is a brown tabby cat who reminds me of one of my own, surrounded by painting supplies. I'm trying to set aside an hour or so a week to work on it (which isn't much, but it's "structured" time, while most of my crafts are "whenever I can squeeze a few minutes in") while listening to my favorite podcast, and I seem to be making good progress so far.

You are waaaaaay ahead of me in cross stitching haha. That's really impressive :) I hope to one day work towards doing bigger pieces. I just need more patience!

Good luck on your Tabby! I'm doing a smaller orange cat with a short saying on it rn. Nothing special, but it's been collecting dust, so I thought I'd finally do it. I need to be better at structuring time to do cross stitching. I have a tendency to start and put it down, then wander back to a piece after months of not touching it.
