Things you rewatch?

(Anonymous) 2013-12-04 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
There's a lot of things that I like, but I think there's a super small amount that I want to re-experience.

So, f!s, what are things you like to rewatch/reread/replay/rewhatever?

I'll be SUPER OBVIOUS and say

- Metal Gear Solid 2.
- The last episode of the original Neon Genesis Evangelion series.

The first is always a riot, there are so many Easter Eggs and conversations, you're always discovering stuff whenever you replay.

As for the last episode of NGE? I love it to death. Never fails to cheer me up. I don't care for The End of Evangelion, epic as it was - think whatever you want, but I like LOADS better the psychobabbling philosophic episode in which Shinji finally overcomes his self-loathing and realizes that he's worthy of love, and is able to grow up.

I had the Kaworu episode and Asuka mind rape episode on my phone for the longest time, would give them a play whenever I was waiting around for prolonged periods.

Ghost in the Shell SAC+2nd Gig, and Darker Than Black.

I would honestly hate to try and count how many times I've sat down and watched them through as a whole, let alone my favourite episodes which get multiple plays.

They are my psycological comfort food.

A lot, I rewatch/read/listen to a lot of things: so list time it is:

Television, random episodes or entire seasons:
- The Big Bang Theory
- 8 out of 10 cats
- Would I lie to you
- QI
- Shameless US
- Buffy The Vampire Slayer
- Angel
- House MD
- Scrubs

FIlms:
- Pirates of The Caribbean
- The Fast and The Furious
- 2 Fast 2 Furious
- James Bond films
- Honey
- Torque
- Harry Potter and The Philosophers Stone
- Save The Last Dance
- Anything Monty Python

Books:
- Good Omens
- Harry Potter
- Earth's Children
- Lamb
- Hitchhikers Guide
- Before I Die
- Jodi Picoult books
- The Dina series

I could go on in all of these categories, I also eat basically the same food (it is healthy and varied enough), order the same meal at restaurants, get dressed the same way, clean the same things on the same day every week, go online the same way and so on. I am a creature of habit and repetition...
starphotographs: ...I'm not that bad, though. And I don't even light things on fire! Well, not regularly... (Izaya (devious))

Pretty much any movie I watch and really like, I watch with someone else who will like it. Or just end up watching it again for no reason.

I seem to come back to Trigun every few years.

I've seen Baccano! three times due to showing it to different people, and I can't see myself not watching it again some day.

I usually do multiple files on any Rune Factory or Harvest Moon game so I can marry different people.

I just re-watched Soul Eater, and I want to show it with my aunt (over Skype or something, she lives far away), and watch it again with a close online friend for old times' sake, because we both followed it as it was coming out.

Oh, and I re-read books semi-frequently, just because familiarity can be nice, and it's nice to refresh myself, especially with non-fiction.

...Yeah. I'm kind of a habitual revisiter as a whole.

I have probably read Night Watch and Small Gods about 400% more times than literally any other book I own right now, including other Discworld books. And I do habitually re-read books I liked, so average good books might be up to 3 or 4 if I've had them for a while.

I rewatch a ton of stuff. TV shows, I rewatch a lot of Buffy, Angel, and Farscape plus occasionally seaQuest (it's terrible but I loev it so). Lately I've been rewatching a bunch of episodes from the 2000 Ninja Turtles series. Also I will always rewatch pretty much any episode of Princess Tutu if given the chance (a bonus on that one is I like the dub, I sometimes have trouble rewatching shows that I only like subbed because it's harder to find time to watch them since I can't multitask and do other things with the show going on in the background). Movies, most stuff from the Disney Renaissance, those are just movies that I can put on at basically any time and be happy. Books, probably too many to name, but Good Omens and Watership Down are two I can read at any time no matter what mood I'm in.

That's just the stuff I can think of off the top of my head, because I love rewatching things. Basically, if I like it enough to own it I'll almost certainly rewatch/reread it. I've been cleaning my room lately and mentioned to my coworkers that I was going to have trouble making room for all my books and they were like 'Just give some away. You've already read them, right?' and my immediate response was 'But I want to read them again.'.

I generaly watch the canonical Ju-On series about once a year (usually around Halloween).

Other movies I usually watch 2 or 3 times just after getting hold of a copy, then rewatch as the mood strikes me, usually a couple years down the line.

I replay video games a lot, since I don't generally have a lot of them, so I replay the ones I have.

Notable examples:

I've played every main game in the Final Fantasy series (except for II, XI, XIII and XIV) at least 4 or 5 times, as well as X-2.

I've replayed The World Ends With You so many times I could basically 'play' it without ever actually picking up my DS.

Same with SMT: Devil Survivor. (Still haven't gotten all the endings, though.)

TV, I'll generally watch reruns of series I like whenever I catch them.

A few series I've gotten on video to rewatch, such as Robotech, which I've rewatched, and read and reread the novels more times than I can count. I've also watched Macross twice (though not Southern Cross or MOSPAEDA).

Rereading - Robotech again, Redwall (the first 1/3 of the series), various comic book series (Sandman, Legion of Superheroes, Amethyst: Princess of Gemworld)...all on an irregular basis.

If I really like something, especially movies, I'll rewatch/reread/whatever over and over. To me, certain things never get boring even though I know everything that happens.

All of my favorite movies get rewatched constantly. I can't tell you how many times I've watched all the available episodes of Teen Wolf. I just don't get tired of them. I do reread books too, but not as often as the visual media.

Re: Things you rewatch?

I tend towards rewatching things at least once pretty frequently. I nearly always notice stuff on the second watch/read through that I didn't the first time through, like clever foreshadowing or just impressive character development stuff. It's also interesting to me to come back to things at different points in my life, and see how my relationship to the work changes. A lot of times, I identify with different characters, or change my mind about a character or plot point in light of how I've changed since I last experienced the story.

I read really quickly, so I tend to reread a book series either just before or just after the next one comes out. And sometimes I just want to jump back into that world.

True story: Once, in middle school, I donated a bunch of books to a book drive thing at our school library. I ended up rebuying one of the books I donated because I wanted to read it again. (I think it was one of the Valdemar books, but I'm not entirely sure which one.)

I'm more inclined to reread books and replay games and occasionally rewatch movies than I am to revisit shows. I love to replay Pokemon games (so many teams to raise! RAISE ALL THE POKEMON) and many of the books/series that I love I've gone through at least twice.

I think I just feel like shows take too long. lol idk

Aside from Christmas specials and movies that I'll sort of re-watch if they're on (The Mummy, okay, I know, and that's not even the worst example,) I have two specific things I watch as kind of a ritual:

My Favorite Year

and

the entire run of SportsNight, usually over a long holiday weekend.

So, yeah.

I don't have a list of movies or tv that I rewatch regularly, but here's the list of books I reread at least once a year:

Pride and Prejudice
Swiss Family Robinson
The Secret Garden
The Little White Horse
The Blue Castle
Star Trek: Janus Gate trilogy
Star Trek: Rihannsu series
Timothy Zahn: I read one or more of his books each year
Mossflower, Mattimeo, The Long Patrol (my fave Redwall books)
Cyrano de Bergerac
Rose Daughter
Watership Down

...I can read really fast

X-Files. Newsradio. Wizard People Dear Reader. Big Trouble In Little China. Lord of the Rings (books). Garth Marenghi's Darkplace. Psych. Neal Stephenson books.

I like to rewatch things in general (sometimes I feel like I can just relax more since I know what's coming) but those are the things I can just rewatch or reread over and over.
