It’s been awhile since I saw the film, but…

I don’t remember Cinderella being the narrator. And okay, if your stepdaughter thinks doing the dishes (for whatever reason) is cruel and unusual punishment, then that’s on her. Cinderella, however, had to wash dishes, clean floors for a very large residence, feed the animals, fix meals, do the laundry, etc. while the rest of the family didn’t appear to have to do any chores and seemed to delight in making Cinderella’s chores harder. They were also insulting, condescending, and dismissive to her while Cinderella tried to be polite and kind. And she wanted to go to a dance, one dance, that everyone was invited to – that just doesn’t seem like a selfish thing to want.

So, here’s the thing, it’s not cruel or unusual for you to want your stepdaughter to somehow contribute to the household. However, if you are treating her like Cinderella’s stepfamily treats Cinderella (basically as an unpaid servant given little or no respect), then yes, that would be cruel and unusual.
