...I think you're probably not her, because she has a very distinct way of typing, but those exact words were definitely once said to one of my friends when I was sitting next to her.

(It was her ex-boyfriend. He was trying to get back with her. He had just called me and another one of her friends hot. Yeah.)

Ah, nope. In my case I was angsting to a friend (who was then, by her own admission, often competitive) that I felt like I'd never be seen as attractive and wished I were pretty and got that assessment.

Though maybe your friend's ex was trying to "neg" her, pick-up artist style, which is pretty terrible.
