Til Santa's Gone by Clint Black

I think it's fairly obscure, but it was on a tape we had when I was little and it remains a family favorite.

Question: are you in any way religious? Because if you're not, I can rec some, and if you are, I can rec some others, but I'd rather know, so I don't accidentally rec you something you won't like. :)

Alright. :D

Here are the Christmas songs I'd recommend. I tend not to listen to to many modern covers, (just because I tend not to listen to the radio very often), so I can't help on that end, but here are some of my favorites, and I hope you like them. :)

Bing Crosby
Holly Jolly Christmas
Silver and Gold
Frosty the Snowman

Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt (it needs to be her, trust me on this.)

Rocking around the Christmas Tree - Brenda Lee

Jingle Bell Rock - Bobby Helms

The Bells of Dublin/Christmas Eve - The Chieftains

Frank Sinatra
Santa Clause is coming to Town
I'll be Home for Christmas

Silver Bells (lots of different versions.)

Christmas Eve Sarejevo - Trans-Siberian Orchestra (It's on an album called "Christmas Eve and other Stories, but I honestly haven't heard it, so I don't know much about it, sorry.)

Carol of the Bells - John Williams (version in Home Alone) (Is it cheating if I tell you both this an Christmas Eve Sarejevo?)

I personally like the Trans-Siberian Orchestra album "The Lost Christmas Eve", but that might not be up your alley.

Snoopy vs. the Red Baron - not sure who the artist is, actually.

The Muppet's Christmas Carol is always on my fav Christmas song list, specifically "One More Sleep 'Til Christmas" and "It Feels like Christmas".

If you like David Bowie at all, I'd suggest the "Little Drummer Boy/Peace on Earth" duet he did with Bing Crosby. It is religious, though, and I understand it if you'd rather not, but I figured I'd mention it because David Bowie. :D

Sorry if this list is a little all over the place; I mostly just opened itunes and went through all my Christmas music. |D

Edit: Also, check out Rodger Whittaker, maybe? He does the older songs, and he also sings them in German, and it's really pretty. :D

I tend to like the ones that don't explicitly mention "Christmas" -- that are either generally wintery, or tilt more pagan. So of traditional carols, things like "Deck the Halls" and "Let it Snow" are near the top of my list. There's also kind of an obscure one that a friend introduced me to in college about the seasonal battle between the Oak King and the Holly King, which I liked.

It's not my fav, but Christmas isn't Christmas at my house without the Hanson Christmas CD. I used to hate it with a passionate as a kid, but I have made my peace with it. I even sing along.

Holiday Cognitive dissonance ahoy!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U025d5CtLWU Mario Lanza, written by and with accompaniment by Harpo Marx, of all people. Possibly the most beautiful Christmas song ever recorded, IMO.

The soundtrack to Muppet Christmas Carol. No, I'm not joking. Feels Like Christmas. In a similar vein, it doesn't feel like Christmas without the How The Grinch Stole Christmas soundtrack. Take it away, Thurl Ravenscroft.

For straight-up Christmas albums done by one artist, try classic Nat King Cole and Andrea Bocelli.

I have a very soft spot for "A Christmas Duel" by The Hives and Cyndi Lauper.
Also "Jul" by Snowstorm because it's so sad. The verses are about all the nice things about Christmas that we enjoy and then the chorus alludes to the homeless who have nothing. That one's in Swedish, though.

I'm not really into the more "traditional" songs apparently.
