the walking dead midseason finale

I'll wait until comments start collapsing but jesus, I need to talk to someone about this.

Did you like it? I have to admit, I was a bit underwhelmed. (Mostly because I had predicted most of it, so there was very little surprise.)

Editing my comment because I wanted to make SURE the comments collapsed, but Hershel was probably my favorite character on the show after Carol and Daryl, and I'm upset that they keep killing off all the lovely moral compasses. :( But again, I thought it had to be about his time to go, and it sucks. He was one of the best actors on the show and he'll be missed from the group dynamic. (He was so good with Glenn and Rick, and I loved his relationship with his daughters, and he was just adorable and awesome and damn show. You so cruel.)

Fuck am I glad the Gov is finally dead. And the manner in which he died pleased me too; that woman should've shot him way earlier. LOL. I would say it's terrible that the little girl had to die to further his decent into madness, but in all honesty he was already there and even if she hadn't died it probably wouldn't have changed much.

And I think Judith is still alive. There were plenty of people running around; I'm convinced someone took her with them.

Glad Daryl is still alive! For a second there I was afraid we had lost him; part of me is still scared he's been bitten and that's what the next episode is going to open with, but I'm hoping that isn't the case. Him with the tank cracked me the hell up. (Such a Solid Snake move!)

(Carol should've been in the episode. Or at least in the preview. WHY COULDN'T THE LAST FRAME OF THE PREVIEW BE CAROL?! Baaaaaah.)

Lord I hope so. I got really really (like crazy sobby) upset when they showed that car seat without her in it. I cannot handle baby death right now, especially when it follows child death. :(

Overall, I loved the episode. I don't know if you're familiar with Firefly, but the Governor is like the Operative to me. I think he has truly changed but not enough to make him fit to be around other humans. I think he genuinely buys his own bullshit. It's scary and wonderful. So glad he's dead, but he was a great villain.

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-12-05 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
I really, really don't think she's dead. They'll do something more with her, I know it. The only thing is...keeping a baby alive in a zombie apocalypse has got to be tricky, and then there's the matter of watching her age, and I'm not sure her survival IS guaranteed. She's adorable and I don't want her to die either, but at some point, in some way, I do expect her to. Maybe this is just me being cynical, but this show loves killing people and I don't trust them with this, lol.

Gov was my most hated character in any series in a long ass time, lol. The actor was great and he was certainly a successful villain, but his solo episodes were almost mind-numbingly boring to me. And I don't personally believe the Gov had changed at all; I think he tried to fool everyone into believing he was someone different, but at the end of the day his core was the same.

After reading the other comments in this thread, I want to make it clear that I am not a Governor sympathizer at all. I think he's a horrible, horrible person with like no redeeming qualities; my only regret in his death is that Hershel didn't get to bash his head in with his wooden leg. LOL I did love him as a villain, though.

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-12-06 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, tis okay! You don't sound anything like a Gov sympathizer, and I've seen enough of them to know what they sound like.

Just about everyone deserved to kill Gov, tbh. Hershel, Maggie and Beth, Michonne, the woman who shot him, etc etc.

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2013-12-05 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
Frankly, I'm surprised Hershel lived as long as he did. I was sure he was done for when the farm went down, then again when his leg got chopped, but I think the writers realized that such a great actor deserved a little more time. He went out extremely well, I think, representing what was right, instead of just another victim of the walkers.

And I agree with how the Governor was finished off, very poetic and long overdue. I'm just mad that he was even allowed to go on as long as he did. Though I do appreciate the message that he existed to deliver, that some people can never come back, and he was one of them, simply because he decided to be. I was so scared he'd come back again because Michonne had to be silly for some reason...thank you lady with the headshot.

Oh, yeah, Judith is fine. If this show has taught us anything, it's that if there's no body, there's hope. But where the heck are they going to go now? What else is more liveable than a prison with arable land? Maybe an island?

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-12-05 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, Hershel stuck around for much longer than anyone would've guessed. I think they originally planned on killing him off earlier but he was such a hit with the fanbase that they kept him on; it was a good decision. We need characters like Hershel to round out the cast and be the voice of reason.

Right? Michonne should've shot him in the head when she had the chance, though I'm glad the other lady got the killshot; she deserved it too. (So many of them did though. I agree, I wanted Gov dead LAST season, but at least he isn't going to be a burden any longer.)

Well, there's always that place that was mentioned on the radio. I don't remember what it was called and I'm not even sure Daryl and the others mentioned it to Rick, but since everyone is split apart right now I imagine they'll wander around in groups and the majority will meet up later, maybe near the end of the season. I'm just waiting for the cannibals to show up, tbh. I keep thinking it's going to happen and it doesn't; it can't be too much longer though!

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2013-12-05 05:51 am (UTC)(link)
That's especially why I'll miss him; he was the only hopeful light. Who's the voice of reason now? All the named survivors have gotten pretty ruthless - even the kids are killing people. If Rick's all that's left, the days of nicey-nice are definitely over.

Wouldn't it just be hysterical if they cut away from actually showing the Gov's head exploding just so they could leave the possibility of bringing him back later open? And by "hysterical", I mean, akdghsakgdkarrgh.

...wait. There's cannibals? *googles* Oh, my god there's cannibals. Congratulations, just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, you proved me wrong! Maybe I should switch to My Little Pony.

Re: SPOILERS

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-12-05 01:33 pm (UTC)(link)
I think Maggie is the closest to the voice of reason now. She's a strong person and generally does what needs to be done, but she takes after her father all the same; she's less hardened than the others.

No. Just no. (Though I think the Gov's actor did a wonderful job of making me loathe him, it was time for him to go.)

Oops, my bad! Tbh I haven't even read the comic but I have a friend who has and she mentioned the cannibals. Plus, I kind of always expect cannibals anyway in this kind of setting; fear, hunger and desperation can make people snap. It's disgusting but some resort to it.

Did you love it? Hate it? What do you need to talk about?

I was sick of the Gov. last season, so i'm so fucking glad he's gone, jayzus. So boring! Too much monologuing! Sadistic fuck!
*cough*

I miss Carol like crazy and i wish Daryl had punched Rick out and omg, Herschel!!!
*clutches heart*

Also glad they're out of the prison, jayzus, and i hope we get to find out who the rat-killer is.

Damn, I forgot about the rat-killer. What even is up with that? Now one of the groups that got away is running with that nutcase.

Re: the walking dead midseason finale

[personal profile] tabaqui 2013-12-05 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
I'm wondering if it was one of those little girls, the one that named the zombies. I think she's behind the rats *and* behind killing the two sick people, and Carol just covered up for her.

Re: the walking dead midseason finale

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-12-05 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
That is what most of the internet believes, and it seems the most likely scenario to me too. (Only it's probably BOTH girls, though the one def gets more attention. I feel like they're going to get caught cutting someone open and that'll be it.)

Heee, yeah. They got a bit weird, there, toward the end. I kinda loved her shooting one of the Govs. people point-blank, though.

Re: the walking dead midseason finale

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2013-12-05 05:44 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I didn't even consider that possibility. As much as I find Carol's new darkness interesting, that would be a great twist. Though I doubt they would have exiled/killed a kid the same way as an adult; no idea what they would do with her, actually.

Yeah, i dunno either. Rick's been acting like such a dumbass, i have no clue.

Re: the walking dead midseason finale

[personal profile] lunabee34 2013-12-05 10:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, *that's* what you meant in my journal. Huh. That hadn't occurred to me.

I did initially think the older girl (the one I kept calling baby Hermione in my head) was responsible for the rats; I wonder if one or two little girls could have managed to overwhelm two people even if sick.

That's an interesting idea though.

I don't want it to be true, though, because it means that Carol is willing to leave these seriously messed up and dangerous children with the camp without anyone else knowing about it. Hmmmmmm. I will ponder.

:)

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2013-12-05 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I was behind by two episodes and this comment convinced me to catch up. WHY. WHY DID I DO THAT.

FUCK THE FUCKING GOVERNOR. There is nothing I hate worse than characters who'd rather see everything in the world burn than not have supreme power over it, and I can't believe that film was even wasted on trying to humanize him. Why did he even live this long?! Just because a sociopath treasures his possessions doesn't make him a worthwhile person. HERSHEL. THE PRISON. EVERYBODY. GODDAMNIT.

Why am I watching this show, it is nothing but pain and agony and then it gets worse, it always gets worse. Oh, wait, I'm only holding on for Daryl. When him and Michonne finally bite it, I'm fucking done.

and I can't believe that film was even wasted on trying to humanize him

IDK, all his episodes did were bore me and convince me he was a ticking time bomb; I was sure he was going to keep murdering people left and right, and it happened. Didn't even take long. If the show wanted me to sympathize with Gov it did a poor job of it; if anything it made me hate him even more and only clarified what I already believed of his character.

But I did see A LOT of, "Don't make me sympathize with the governor" and even some "If you don't feel for the gov after tonight's episode, you're heartless", but after his second episode most everyone had changed their minds again and were back to hating him. I wasn't buying into his brief romance, and his relationship with Penny 2.0 just disturbed me; in the finale I expected the mother to try to take her daughter and run, and for him to catch them, murder the mother and keep the daughter chained up or something.

I was boggled at the number of people (on FB) who were saying how much *character growth* the Gov. had, and how awesome a character he was/how awesome his story was, 'if you don't like it you're not a true fan', blah blah blah.

I saw nothing new in him, at all. Obsessed, sadistic jackass, period. I was sick of him *last* season.

Re: the walking dead midseason finale

[personal profile] darkmanifest 2013-12-05 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I figured the minute the little girl came on to the scene, it would be back to the same-old eventually, but I was afraid the show was going to commit itself long-term to his pretend-rehabilitation, and we were going to have to wait a whole season for the guy to show his true colors again while they milked drama of him living in the prison with normal people for all it was worth. Ugh, just thinking about that almost makes me grateful things went completely tits-up.

Re: the walking dead midseason finale

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-12-05 01:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, me too. A whole season of Gov trying to be a better man would be unwatchable; I think even I would've given up on the show then.
