ooh...I actually have no idea about this! I go to school far away from my home state and came here without any prior knowledge of the area. I have noticed that most girls have pitchers with water filters in to keep in their fridges, but otherwise I dunno.

Unless you're going to school in an undeveloped country and your bathroom is a rusty spigot in the middle of nowhere supplied from an untested well, don't sweat it. Tap water in every state of the U.S. has to meet certain standards and it's regularly tested.

We buy water (or use a filtered pitcher thing) because none of us like our water cool - we want it to be *cold*. And unless it's below freezing outside, the tap water here doesn't get very cold, and when it's not super-cold, you can taste the chemicals in it.

(It's clean, it's just - you know - chlorine and fluoride and all the frickin' lime in it.) So icy water from the 'fridge tastes much, much better.

If you go to school in the US, then your water supply is fine. Those filter pitchers are to improve the taste of the water by removing chlorine and minerals and stuff; they don't do anything to make it sanitary.
