Well. Now I want to read this book.

Secret 11 - Know Not Why by Hannah Johnson

[Picture is the cover of the book "Know Not Why" by Hannah Johnson. It shows a ball of yarn that unraveled a little to form the outline of a heart.]

I thought both of the main characters seemed so asexual that I had a hard time buying all the sex that was supposedly happening. I can't help but feel like this would be an unpopular opinion...

This was my favourite M/M published book! I can't believe someone made a secret on it.

And yes I can see where you're coming from OP (mostly about Arthur), but the build of their relationship was so cute I didn't really care.

And the side-characters were good too. I found myself rooting for his best friends and his brother's girlfriend was such a cool girl too. :D

I can see it too (like you said, especially with Arthur) but I don't think it's a bad thing. Their relationship was adorable and the side characters were awesome, too. And I would probably also consider it my favorite published m/m book.

So basically I pretty much just agree with your entire comment. :D

Okay, first: "I thought the main both of characters" is how people would generally read that phrase when it's formatted like that. Bad formatting choice.

Second...how do you read clearly-sex-having characters as asexual, exactly? I haven't read this book, so I really have no idea what you're talking about.

"Okay, first: "I thought the main both of characters" is how people would generally read that phrase when it's formatted like that. Bad formatting choice."

Hmmm, it didn't occur to me to read it the way you said until you mentioned it, and I don't think it would to most other people either.

You've never seen the jokes about this image, I take it?

Most people will read in columns if it looks like that's how it's divided.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-07 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
Nope.

I probably would've read it in columns if the entire image had been that way, but since it was in regular horizontal lines below that, I just read it straight across.

Yeah, this. Context matters.

how the hell does somebody "seem" asexual?

Well, I once tried to write a tender scene between two lovers, and my initial readers commented on how odd it was that they never hugged or kissed each other. If the book OP read is like that, I can see where the assumption might come in.

One of the characters was a bit Sheldon Cooper/BBC Sherlock-ish and I know a lot of people interpret them as asexual so I'm guessing that has something to do with it.

Hannah Johnson! I thought I was the only person who knew her books existed. Glad to learn that's not the case...

Has she written something else? I love this book but it's the only one that comes up under her name on amazon.
