Every time I see this movie, I want to read fanfiction about these two guys (like, together). The "little tree" conversation really gets me.

Actually, pretty sure that a study found that knowing the big twist/spoilers INCREASES your enjoyment of the movie/tv show. Because when you know the twist you don't spend the whole movie anticipating it and can instead focus on the plot/cinematography/acting.

The only thing I can suggest is get away from this sort of thing for your own mental stability. If you wait till it's ruined fandom for you, I think you'll regret it.

I reverse image searched this. It's a show called Canaan. Apparently, it's one of those anime that really, really hints the main characters are lesbians, but never allows them to so much as kiss.

As a general statement: if the show wants you to think the characters are lesbians, but it won't go all the way and let them actually be lesbians, don't expect to be satisfied with the ending. Shows like Maria-sama ga Miteru thrive on baiting an audience, then letting them down to appease the moral guardians.

The conflict that you're referring to is dumb manufactured drama out of a screenwriting textbook and it adds essentially nothing to the show, though.

I mean, you can still have him being a dick to Lestrade and other detectives on an individual level - that's one thing - but I don't think the conflict of "the police don't like working with him" or "he's such an outcast and only has one friend" really adds anything to the show. You can have him be kind of a loner without adding this kind of conflict.

I was completely unaware that King Candy had a following, but I will posit that Randall's interesting character design (almost kind of cute, I guess?) and voice acting contribute a lot to fans' appreciation of him.
