Eh, I'm not fan of Donnie in this series myself partially because of his behavior towards April (which is why I'm so happy they've recently had characters start to call him out -somewhat- on his behavior) and he seems to come off as the 'pet favorite' of the writers (if not Ciro Nieli, since iirc he's said on record that Donnie is his favorite Turtle) too much for my liking at times. But YMMV and all that.

(Also, awesome to see a TMNT secret)

WHY DOES HE HAVE FINGERS

HE IS A TURTLE

They don't call 'em Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for nothing.

I like how the 80's version gave them toes/feet shaped like tabi. For extra Ninja cred, lol.

Oh god that character design D:

"...maybe I just really like Rob Paulsen."

legit.

He gets a bit of a pass because he's been effectively raised in isolation all of his life, so he really doesn't and shouldn't know any better.

Plus we all know that he's not going to "win" April anyways.

seconded, especially since casey's in the show now. i think we're going to start seeing him grow out of it a bit as the series goes on.

it's also worth noting that april is aware of the crush and still wants to be his friend while making it clear that nothing's going to happen.

tbh I don't like this version of TMNT

gimme 2003 and the 80s version over this shit any day

at least this series is respectful of all other tmnt series, which is something 2003 can't claim

Secret 12 - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-10 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Donatello from the CGI animated cartoon series "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles". He is a anthropomorphic green turtle with a distinctive purple (?) blindfool with holes for his eyes. He is holding a staff (?) and posing confidently.]

I feel like this character should annoy me, but instead I love him. (That's in a "I love seeing episodes featuring him" kind of way, not in a "I have a crush" kind of way - for clarity.)

Normally, the way he acts towards April would bother the hell out of me, I mean, it's often kind of creepy, but I don't find the character creepy at all. He's just kind of endearing. ...I feel a little guilty for letting it slide here, when normally I'd drop a character for acting like that...

Basically I feel bad for not feeling more bad. Also, I'm an adult, watching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should not be the highlight of my week at this point... what the fuck.

(My favorite character in the '80's was Raph... ...maybe I just really like Rob Paulsen.)

I could have written this secret myself. :) Right down to it being a highlight of my week. I tend to feel like it's because this is a little better written than the 2003 version (and dear god, SO much better written than the 80s one. I made the mistake of trying to pull that series out of its nostalgia bath to enjoy as an adult, a la Gargoyles or Darkwing Duck, and I just couldn't. So stilted! So painful! So much awkward dialogue! So much uneven characterization!)

OP

I like your taste, anon! :D I'm glad I'm not the only one. I really agree, it's the good writing that stands out most, and as someone who likes character best, I'm having a blast with this!
