I still love it, but the resentment is there and I choose to believe that the last few seasons didn't really exist.

Yesss. Ugh. My friend worked in the art department for the last season and said they were all so horrified by the scripts. It deserved so much better.

From everything I've heard, I'm becoming increasingly glad that I got spoiled for the finale of season 4 and stopped watching.

Ugh. They should have had a Dexter gets discovered and there's a manhunt for him storyline at the end. Instead of Debbie founding out his secret and falling apart.

I read something from the original show runner (left after season 3 I think) who said he had envisioned the finale with Dexter getting caught.

I KNOW. The first season of Dexter was like, a game changer for me, and then they took some kind of detour into bizarro land and never came back.

THIS. I like to pretend the season 4 finale was the series finale. That way it went out on a high note and tbh there's absolutely nothing in the later seasons that I feel I'm missing out on by refusing to acknowledge their existence.
