I've seen some people put them together to go with their fics, a mix of setting the mood, a soundtrack, or songs they had in mind while writing certain scenes.

I've also seen people create fanmixes as a form of character study, which can be interesting when done write.

I like seeing fanmixes. Seeing what tastes people have, what songs remind them of certain shows or characters or scenes. What songs they were thinking of while writing. I think they're fun and as a bonus it's a great way to discover new music.
