Re: Fanmixes

I LOVE fanmixes, although I used to think they were pretty strange and cheesy. But that was mostly because I'd only heard a few terrible ones, and once I heard some awesome mixes I finally 'got it.' A good fanmix is like a carefully curated collection of songs that fit a character or setting perfectly.

For good fanmixes, it's not just making a list of songs that vaguely remind you of a thing. It's that the song, from start to finish, seems like it could very well have been written specifically about that character/setting/pairing. The music is thematically appropriate in some way, the lyrics all fit, the song works well with all the other songs in the mix, etc. For some of the mixes I love, I don't even particularly LIKE all (or any) of the songs on their own, and wouldn't normally choose to listen to them. But I love them combined into a playlist because all together they make a 'picture' of that character/setting/whatever.
