I noticed this with Pacific Rim. Hey, it did some good things but it actually did score poor on others. Including female representation. People invented a new test just to defend it. Which, I liked but Mako doesn't even really pass the Mako Mori test. You still have the issue that there was only two female characters and only one spoke. I've known shonen manga with better female representation than that.

Which brings me to another point: you can like things and still find faults because I love Pacific Rim.

There's plenty of shounen manga that do better than that. Even a sausagefest like Kuroko no Basuke has three female characters, all with different personalities. And it would've been so easy to replace both Riko and Alex with male characters too.
