Are you fucking kidding me. And most of the cast in The Hobbit isn't even American.

Okay, fair point. But even if the cast isn't American, the complainers probably are. The cast of The Hobbit is pretty white, but there's nothing obviously "Nordic" about hobbits, and the Germanic roots of dwarves aren't very well-in popular culture, so they're not as convenient a target.

(I admit I stated all that in the most extreme way possible, but I seriously think what touched this off was specifically that Frozen used Northern European characters. I don't remember any sort of outcry over race regarding Tangled.)

I've met plenty of non-American complainers? There was tons of outcry over race in Tangled (it just didn't really kick off until about a year after the film came out). And Brave as well. In fact, Brave is really where the whole medieval POC in film argument REALLY kicked off on tumblr. Tumblr just likes to target Disney princess movies probably because their pervasiveness in pop culture (but also I think just because Disney is an obvious target).
