Disney is a company that has made almost all of its money from retelling fairy tales. And not fairy tales no one has ever heard before, but the most popular ones that everyone reads and have been retold time and again. They pretty much stick to the two most famous: Grim and Anderson.

this. those are hands-down the most popular fairy tales worldwide. hell, even japan has done animated adaptations of things like the little mermaid before. of course disney is going to go for the stories that people all over the world are going to know.
