Music shuffle!
(Anonymous) 2013-12-11 02:51 am (UTC)(link)1. Tired, Matchbox Twenty
2. Rattlesnake Smile, Kane
3. Feel Like Home, Fort Minor
4. Accio Deathly Hallows (acoustic), Hank Green
5. Cradlesong, Rob Thomas
It's a decent selection. I have quite a bit Matchbox 20/Rob Thomas/Tabitha's Secret, so I'm surprised to see it pop up twice. And genre-wise it covers alternative, rap and the smattering of country-ish music that I have, but it really drops the ball on my selection of pop and rock. But really, short of replacing Rob Thomas and adding a slot, I'm not sure how I'd get that, since Accio Deathly Hallows also fits the genre of weird comedy-type music that also encompasses Weird Al and The Arrogant Worms. So, in the interest of further testing of my shuffle, I'ma expand to 10 and see how well it does. (Feel free to just do 5 if that's all you want to do)
6. The Hero Dies in This One, The Ataris
7. Yoda, Weird Al Yankovic
8. Rumor Has It, Adele
9. Voice in the Chorus, Hanson
10. We Will Rock You, Queen
Shuffle, today you win awards for not giving me 45 percent Hanson, 45 percent MB20/RT/TS and 10 percent randomness.

2. On Top- The Killers
3. Home at Last- Labyrinth OST
4. News from Spain (live)- Al Stewart w/ Dave Nachmanoff
5. Rehab- Amy Winehouse
Hmm well that looks very 2006ish, doesn't it! I have a lot of older and newer music as well. I know I've said it here before, but I love Al Stewart. My username is one of his songs. I have like all but one of his albums, constituting a full 239 tracks and 17.4 hours of JUST Al Stewart.
6. Quiet Houses- Fleet Foxes
7. It's a Miracle- Trashcan Sinatras
8. Sheffield Waltz / Waltz Clog / The Wounded Hussar- Waterson:Carthy
9. Stranger to Himself (live)- Fairport Convention
10. Think That You Might Be Wrong- Great Lake Swimmers
And here shuffle turns up 4 songs in the folk rock vein. Actually think these 5 songs go together quite well. So yeah, that's a sampling of my music taste, although there should also be a double handful of Broadway and more classic rock.
Re: Music shuffle!
1. Help Me! - Morning Musume
2. Rappa Renshuuchuu - Watanabe Mayu
3. Breathless - The Corrs
4. Over it Over Again - She & Him
5. Electioneering - Radiohead
Help Me! started off Morning Musume's good year in music. Not my favorite song this year, but not the worst (though its music video is just awful). Rappa Renshuuchuu IS one of my favorite songs of the year; I don't pay that much attention to Mayuyu but this is a great song. I haven't listened to The Corrs in ages, but I suppose it is an early indication of my preference for female-vocaled pop. She & Him is one of my favorite groups going, and I adore Over It Over Again so yay. I haven't listened to Radiohead in ages, either, but I suppose it shows my interest in stuff beyond female vocals?
Still, starting off with two JPop songs is pretty accurate, and the others are also pretty good.
6. Steppin' Out - Joe Jackson
7. Ballad of a Politician - Regina Spektor
8. Narcissus - Alanis Morissette
9. Diva - After School
10. Sunday Morning - Maroon 5
Only listened to Joe Jackson in the car with my dad when I was ~10-12 so this is very nostalgic. I love love love Regina Spektor, so this is great. I haven't listened to Alanis Morissette in a long time. After School, AKA the one KPop group I fan over. And I should be more embarrassed to have Maroon 5 on there, but Songs about Jane was a legit album.
And yeah, so this is basically accurate in that I like female pop music, but there's nothing really from my indie/alt faves. No The New Pornographers, no Arctic Monkey, no Jack White, no Shins, no Arcade Fire, no Freelance Whales, etc. So that wasn't fully represented.
Re: Music shuffle!
1. Q - Cartel
2. Rock On - Michael Damian
3. Rolling in the Deep - Adele
4. Fight For All The Wrong Reasons - Nickelback
5. Sunday Blood Sunday - U2
6. Groovin' - The Young Rascals
7. Losing a Whole Year - Third Eye Blind
8. Smile - Flickerstick
9. Sarajevo - Trans Siberian Orchestra
10. Carry On Wayward Son - Kansas
I'm okay with that mix.
Re: Music shuffle!
1. Don't You Forget About Me (David Cook)
2. Aha! (Imogen Heap)
3. Oh My! (Haley Reinhart)
4. The Way You Make Me Feel (Radiant*)
5. Circling Around the Moon (John Mellencamp)
6. Stand My Ground (Within Temptation)
7. Future Foe Scenarios (Silversun Pickups)
8. Monkey Wrench (Foo Fighters)
9. Break Me Down (Red)
10. I'm Not Running Anymore (John Mellencamp)
Hm. I always dislike it when the same artist gets on there twice lol, but at least they're from different albums.
That said, I feel like it's a reasonable representation. There's a variety of artists from a variety of times in my life, from ten years ago to within the past year and in between. Something of a variety of genres, too, even if it's not necessarily proportional to what I actually listen to (and I'm not actually sure what that proportion would be, lol)
Re: Music shuffle!
1. Shinji Hosoe - Octal Game (from the 999 soundtrack)
2. Smile - Janelle Monae
3. Valley of the Dolls - Marina and the Diamonds
4. The Bitter End - Placebo
5. Pilot Light - on one of the Homestuck albums, Colours and Mayhem Universe B
6. Sweet Dreams, Timaeus - another Homestuck one
7. Dord Waltz - yet another
8. This Jesus Must Die - Jesus Christ Superstar
9. Lies - The Pierces
10. Before the Beginning and After the End - wow can you believe it's Homestuck I sure can't
Overall I like it. The 999 music is really atmospheric and most of these songs kind of match my melancholy sci-fi mood. Valley of the Dolls isn't my favorite Marina and the Diamonds song the Jesus one doesn't really fit but whatever. I'd never actually listened to Pilot Light before.
Re: Music shuffle!
(Anonymous) 2013-12-11 04:31 am (UTC)(link)1) Townes Van Zandt - Talking Thunderbird Blues
2) The Mountain Goats - You or Your Memory
3) Kate Miller-Heideke - Ride This Feeling
4) Minutemen - Fascist
5) Sebadoh - Holy Picture
I like this, even if it's a little scattershot. I don't listen to Kate Miller-Heideke as much as I ought, but I really dig that song, and I really, really like her voice. The Minutemen track is solid. Not my favorite Sebadoh song but the Townes and Mountain Goats are real good.
6) Lisa Germano - A Guy Like You
7) Laura Marling - I Was Just A Card
8) The Band - Life Is A Carnival
9) The Band - Tears of Rage
10) The Replacements - Breakdown
Okay, now this selection is great - two of my favorite singers and two of my favorite rock bands in the world. How good is Lisa Germano, and how much do I love that song. The album - Geek The Girl - is so, so intense, and I haven't listened to the whole thing since I bought it (mostly because of "...A Psychopath"), but the songs at the beginning and end are all fantastic, and this might be my favorite track on the whole album. Laura Marling is great, I love basically everything she's ever done, and this song is no exception - her voice is so gorgeous and the horns on the track really work well behind it. The Band is always great, and these are two very different but excellent songs. And the Replacements track is barely a song - it's from the very rough live album Shit Hits The Fans - but the sloppiness is why we love them.
Sorry for kind of geeking out towards the end there but I guess that's what happens when it's a bunch of music that I'm really passionate about.
Re: Music shuffle!
2. The Script for My Requiem - Blind Guardian
3. Nom the Wise - Blind Guardian
4. I Want to Break Free - Queen
5. Stagger Lee - Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
6. The First of Autumn - Enya
7. Traveller in Time - Blind Guardian
8. One Vision - Queen
9. Like Fire - Pantera
10. Invocation of Apocalyptic Evil - Dragonforce
11. Bright Eyes (acoustic version) - Blind Guardian
12. Leningrad - Billy Joel
13. Kunstliche Welten - Wolfsheim
14. Keep the Flame Burning - Hammerfall
15. Special - Garbage
I guess any of these sets are reasonably representative of my tastes, though some of the songs are from albums I haven't really listened to much, and there's a marked lack of a few favorites (though the prevalence of Blind Guardian is in no way inaccurate). All told, I'm not embarrassed by any of this.
Re: Music shuffle!
1. The Drinking Song - Moxy Früvous
2. Mexico - CAKE
3. Hurting All The Way - The Sound of Arrows
4. Immoral Church - TeddyLoid & ☆Taku Takahashi (Panty and Stocking soundtrack)
5. Are You Out There (Live) - Dar Williams
Overall, a nice selection, I think. The Drinking Song is such a heavy song and imo one of Moxy Früvous's best. I'm sad that I'm too tired to appreciate it properly. Mexico and Hurting All The Way I don't have strong feelings about, but they're nice, quiet, melancholy songs and good followups to The Drinking Song. Then we get to Immoral Church which is just 23 seconds of Garterbelt shouting, which amuses me. And I love 90% of Dar's work, including every damn song on Out There Live, and Are You Out There is no exception. ♥ So, yes. Good.
Re: Music shuffle!
2. Kimi wo Nosete - Castle in the Sky
3. Black Rose/Green Sun - Homestuck Vol. 7
4. Await the King's Justic - Game of Thrones
5. The Rising - Stargate Atlantis
I listen to soundtracks. I actually don't listen to tracks 4 and 5 at all, since I only like a couple songs from those soundtracks. Also I have so many Homestuck and Doctor Who songs, I'm surprised Doctor Who didn't join Homestuck in the first five.
6. Tyomnaja Noch - Mark Bernes
7. A Dazzling End - Doctor Who Series 4
8. Ballad of Sweeney Todd (Prelude) - Sweeney Todd (OBC)
9. A Princess - Pan's Labyrinth
10. The White Queen - Alice in Wonderland (Danny Elfman)
Woo, there you are Doctor Who. And a bit of the Elfman tracks I've got. And and a bit of the many Broadway OST's I have. And one of my "random" songs, Tyomnaja Noch. I first heard it from the Ukraine's Got Talent sand painting performance, and that was one of several songs that stuck with me.
But yeah, decent representation of me. Maybe a Disney song would've been nice... the first one on my shuffle list is #12, so it barely missed it.
Re: Music shuffle!
2 - Kingdom Hearts Soundtrack - A Day in Agrabah
3 - Homestuck - Constant Conquest
4 - Homestuck - Black Hole/Green Sun
5 - Oingo Boingo - You Got Your Baby Back
6 - Steam Powered Giraffe - Steam Man Band (Live)
7 - Tommy february6 - I Still Love You Boy
8 - Horslips - Dusk
9 - Shonen Knife - Deer Biscuits
10 - Cyndi Lauper - You've Really Got a Hold on Me
Almost entirely tracks I forgot I have. All the soundtrack ones are from albums I have for other tracks - except for Black Hole/Green Sun, because that's pretty badass. Nothing I'd be embarrassed by. Tomoko Kawase is my favourite artist, but Tommy february is my least favourite of her projects, and I rarely listen to those, so it's slightly disappointing that came up instead of a Tommy heavenly6 or the brilliant green track.
As good an overview of my collection as 10 tracks could accomplish, I suppose.
