There was sanding done on couple of streets, but most of what it is is that this is the first time in a couple of years where the snow has stuck around for more than a day; last year, for example, it snowed one night, was there the next day, but was mostly melted morning after that. This time, though, it snowed on Thursday night/friday, we can maybe 6~8 inches? (I'm bad at judging, but it completely covered my hand, and then went up a couple inches on my wrist), and then it's been hovering at around 18~25F during the day, so the snow isn't melting. (On the plus side, that means that it's not melting, then refreezing overnight and icing everything up.)

Because snow usually doesn't stick around this long, we don't really have plows, and while the streets around the campus were sanded, the streets farther out (where I live) were not, because that's not the center of commerce and stuff.

It's frustrating, but I can see why it's happening? I just wish it wasn't.

ooooh.

Yeah, we rarely get horror-story snow but our roads do need to be plowed at least once a year, and the sidewalks (possibly also roads) salted several times. So we'd be back up and running quick.

I'm kind of surprised your classes are still going with such treacherous conditions.

Stay safe!

Well, classes on Friday were canceled after noon, and individual teachers were aloud to cancel their pre-noon classes at their discretion, but yeah, finals are still happening.

Admittedly, the weather has been clear the last couple of days; just cold, so it's not like there are storms about, so I can kind of see their reasoning?

I was also wondering if it was just because of the potential logistical nightmare of having to delay finals right before a big break...(assuming your school system has a long winter break)

I mean at our school they have this planned a year or more in advance, people make travel plans, the dorms all shut down at the end of the week, etc.

I would assume so; our winter break is about a month long, and it would be hellish to try and delay everything, especially since the weather doesn't look like it's going to warm up any time soon, so it's just going to stick around.

Maybe if it's sticks around any longer, they'll get a plow or something up in my area, that'd be nice.
