spoilers for episode 10 "The Bridge"

SPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS!!!






here it goes




Okay, so Centipede, the guys trying to make super soldiers, have stabilized the serum and sent a few soldiers (but with a shitload of implants instead of just one D:, but at least they're no longer exploding? vOv) to break out the prison dude that Rayna had talked with to convince him to contact "The Clairvoyant".

Prison Contact Dude turns out to be a military strategist.

SHIELD finds out and so they recruit Not Luke Cage from the pilot episode, who is no longer explode-y thanks to the special stuff they shot him with to stop him (Fitz-Simmons marvel over his totally ripped body -- and that their experimental gun was what stabilized him, yay, science! -- when they examine him in their lab, especially Jemma), and he still has his super strength but he tires out after a while of exerting himself and needs to eat and sleep tons to recover.

Meanwhile Skye is all "who are my parents, oh my mom might be a SHIELD agent yay :)" and Coulson promises her May will help her look through restricted files -- which is a filthy, filthy lie and May is annoyed anytime Skye asks until she snaps and tells her they were never going to tell her and that if she wants to be a part of SHIELD finding her parents shouldn't be her only motivation. Skye goes to her room and cries.

Meanwhile Coulson and Ward are all being bonding and stuff and Coulson mentions that cellist from Portland again, being all wistful because he supposedly died and SUPER SPY SECRECY and he can't see her again and she was wonderful and beautiful, but OH WELL. Ward suggests she just work for SHIELD, BAM PROBLEM SOLVED but Coulson is all "nah, dating your coworkers ain't the shit", which makes Ward go kind of "hmm" and "uh-oh", because he and May have this tense "don't let our relationship get in the way of duty, Ward, eyes on the job" "I know, jeez" thing going on.

Anyway, they do their spy investigation shenanigans and track the bad guys down to a warehouse, where the super soldiers more or less kick all their collective asses

One of the soldiers doesn't manage to run away, but before they can detain him his eye does the bursts-and-kills-you thing from the SEDUCE HIM episode.

They try to use their ~*~hacking~*~ to trace them through the eye they recovered, like in that episode, but it doesn't work.

It turns out that Centipede keep moving bases every few days because SHIELD keeps finding them, which has slowed down their progress with their super serum, but it also means they must have someone obscenely rich backing them, and also their technology is advancing suspiciously fast (oh, a link with the alien equations from the "seduce him" episode? MAN, WHAT A MYSTERY, I WONDER WHO IS FEEDING THEM WITH ALIEN KNOWLEDGE).

But it's all cool, because Not Luke Cage's son -- whom he had left with his aunt and bribed with Avengers toys and never saw again since the pilot, only contacted him through phone, because I'M A MONSTER, WHAT WILL HE THINK OF ME -- had been kidnapped by Rayna and they wanted to do a trade:

Not Luke Cage in exchange for his son.

Oh, and we never ever see or hear "The Clairvoyant", whom for all we know might be Prison Contact Dude's alternate ego or a voice in his head or something, but Prison Contact Dude says that The Clairvoyant said that Not Luke Cage is the key to starting ~*~PHASE THREE~*~ of their plans.

Anyway, Coulson and Co. are like "well, damn" about the kidnapping, but Fitz is all like "no it's cool, we'll track you through magical scents or some science shit, let's do this" so then Coulson and Not Luke Cage go to the exchange site because Not Luke Cage was only allowed one escort and he wanted Coulson. Coulson tells May she's in charge of the team if something happens to him.

At the kidnapping exchange place, Ward is being all sniper-y from a distance (against what they were told by the kidnappers), but the exchange takes place in a spot where he has no visibility because of a bunch of trucks and tank things lying around are blocking his sight (MAN, IT'S ALMOST LIKE CENTIPEDE HAVE GOT SOME SEER PERSON GUIDING THEM), and everyone else is hiding in a van, ready to activate the magic tracking thing as soon as the exchange is done.

BUT IT WAS A TRAP.

Not Luke Cage reveals that the exchange was actually his kiddo for Coulson.

Coulson is all unruffled because he is Coulson, but Not Luke Cage is super mega guilty so he grabs Rayna by the throat and threatens to kill her, but she calmly points out that her boss doesn't give a shit about her and they'll just kill the child if she dies, so Not Luke Cage lets her go and reluctantly takes his son and abandons Coulson.

Then they inject Coulson with a paralyzer or something and drag him over to a car.

The team realizes something went wrong and run over to the approaching Not Luke Cage, who hands over his son to Skye and asks her to look after him before running of to be a hero and rescue Coulson.

But just as he is walking past the bunch of truck tank things THEY FUCKING EXPLODE, presumably killing him. Skye, kiddo and Fitz-Simmons are all "NOOOOOOOO WTF OMG".

Ward is all "oh fuck" and makes to shoot the guys dragging Coulson, but May is all "no, they'll kill Coulson, let's contact HQ" and so she does that.

Ward looks at the car again and realizes no one's there, and then a helicopter flies by, shooting at Ward, who falls back to the floor, whether just injured or dead is unknown, and then flies away, while everyone else on the ground stares impotently and in shock.

Then, at the helicopter, Coulson is all badass-like "you won't get shit from me" and Rayna is all "but what we want from you is simple: tell us what happened the day after you died" and Coulson's face goes all "oh shit".
