I def agree with DAII, but ME...well, clearly the names are placeholders. "Jane" and "John" don't seem like real names, so I'm okay with other names...

But they should just be using "Shepard", anyway. That's what EVERYONE in the game, lover, close friends, subordinates, superiors, enemies, etc call her. It's just OOC for Shepard to want to be called by their first name. If you demand it, I will tend to think it's a self insert.

This I agree with. Hawke is Hawke. Shepard is Shepard. Both known by their last name.

I have zero bullshit tolerance for those who whine about writers who give them first names that aren't default.

Exactly. I have back buttoned out of many fics where Shepard has a special snowflake name and thats prevalent over just calling him/her (usually her) 'Shepard' in fic.
