12 lol love what? That just hurts me. I really hate the use of rape as a plot point in fic.

NS1 - I saw a lot of this sentiment, and what I don't think a lot of people understood was the significance of this. Contrary to what most of you naysayers may think, a great deal of those of us who are talking about it aren't talking about it because of omgzslash teh geis!!!1, or because of lol fandom. This is actually a relatively serious issue. How many characters of this level of recognition are gay? How many of them are as complete, as powerful, and as dynamic as Dumbledore?

I think a lot of the naysayers are being totally small minded and petty about this. A lot of us care about Dumbledore digging the cock because this could be about people accepting gay people as being something other than some fa~laaaming dude on tv who knows everything about fashion.

With you on both points!

Totally with you on the latter point. I also think it's crucial that Dumbledore isn't some fanservicey bishi - when he died, he was an old man who'd lived a rich and full life, for the most part. (Although maybe lonely romantically - he was still surrounded by more dear friends than, say, Snape--canonically into teh girlz, was never happy in any respect.) And for the fact that, all the whining about "OMG WE NEVER KNEW" -- that's the whole POINT. You never knew. And it didn't matter.

I've been friends with gay men in their 60s and 70s, and that's how it was - most people who knew you didn't know. They made damn sure you got to like them first, so that if the rumor ever leaked out, you wouldn't care. The closet wasn't always a moral failing, it used to be a survival skill. Can't blame DD for being good at it like he was good at almost everything else.
