Anything involving the word "potential" is usually an attempt to guilt trip you in to doing something that the person giving the compliment wants to do. Tell 'em to do it themselves! :P

Teenage girl. I think she felt bad for me and out of her depth and tried to think of something, anything that was a bright side what had just happened so I cut her some slack and just looked at her weird. It was the least of my problems then to put it lightly.

Looking back, most of my middle school/early high school friends said that they didn't like me at all when they first met me but we somehow became friends.

People complimenting me on my weight and implying I'm anorexic in the same breath. I'm a few pounds underweight, have talked to my doctor, and am working on it. I shouldn't be getting any compliments on that aspect of my body because of that. Plus, I was never big to begin with.

Also, "Wow, you look so pretty with makeup. You should wear it more often." Yeah, thanks for calling my natural face ugly.

I used to be on the higher end of the scale just below overweight, which is my preferred weight. I've been sick. I'm close to underweight now and people keep saying how pretty I look compared to before.

I've gotten some variation of the good wife compliment for most of my life. :/ Lately I just say "Oh thank you! That means a lot because I've got my eye on *insert famous woman*!"

I don't know if it's the most insulting, but I have a very clear memory of a group of pretty asian girls in high school telling me they were jealous of my very prominent nose. Weirdest maybe.

I can't hold down a job because I have Asperger's. my mom told me I was successful for a person with Asperger's. i told her that's like saying you ride a bike well for a chimp.
