Oh, so agreed.
Were the Gummi ship sections in KH2 better than in the first game? I seem to remember always hating them, but maybe my memories are making them seem worse than they are.
I actually didn't mind some of the Olympus Coliseum bits, but on a whole I just ignored the minigames (when you weren't forced to play them, anyway).
I don't even remember a card game in Xenosaga Episode 1, but I DO remember a card game in KOTOR, playing it once and not bothering with it again.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-16 12:17 am (UTC)(link)yes! they made them actually fun! :0
auuuugh the olympus coliseum! I don't even remember what they consisted off, but I remember the feeling of dread and resignation when I saw the challenges available...
I don't remember how you access the minigames in Xenosaga, but it was one of four minigames (one was a mecha battle, another Blackjack or a Blackjack type of game, I think? that could get you neat items for the main game, and the other was a game with a drill where you tried to get prizes), but I only really liked the card game. it was like trading card game where you used cards of characters and enemies from the main game to fight

Clearly I need to get back into KH, because I don't remember that! Was the escort thing with Minnie considered a mini-game? I loved that. LOVED. Also the Steamboat Willie level. I recently bought the 1.5 remix and am looking forward to the 2.5 remix as well. Need to replay them...

I get this feeling whenever I'm being timed, but sometimes its worse than others. :(
Hmmmmmmmm. I still don't remember the Xenosaga mini-game, but it sounds kind of cute at least? I'd like to collect the cast, lol. Did the mini-game have anything to do with building that ultimate mecha that you could use in boss battles? I just remember getting that thing then summoning it and it defeating the final boss for me (or, well, at least one section of it; don't remember the details) in one hit. (Though maybe that wasn't even the first game...)

(Anonymous) 2013-12-16 02:06 am (UTC)(link)I'm not sure if it counts as a mini-game but, wow, if that is not the best escort mission ever then I don't know what is
I haven't beaten KHII (got distracted) so I'll look forward to it!
I hate hate hate timed challenges. hate them. D:
I think the ultimate mecha thing came from machine parts you found scattered in the world and brought back to the crazy scientist guy, who made the ultimate mecha thing evolve into different forms (until you reached the final badass KO-everything one), but don't quote me on that, it's been a really long time since I last played

Right? Escort missions are usually the worst, but I actually didn't want that one to end.
Ooh, you should get back to it when possible! I liked KHII even better than the first game, though the lack of exploration was a bit disappointing, overall it was more fun to play. Plus, the new worlds were awesome. :p
I feel you. Boy, do I feel you...
Oooo, yes, crazy scientist guy who at one point moved onto your ship, you are right. I always want to replay Xenosaga because although it's been a long time and my memories of it are sort of vague, it was one of my favorite RPG series. It's just so long and difficult... If there was a PS3 version for it I would probably go for it.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-16 02:42 am (UTC)(link)the improved combat system kind of makes up for it, so I guess I'll pick it up again! :v
ohhh the cutscenes, yesss
