That's a large part of my problem with it, but what gets me even more is when there are no provisions made for birth control but the characters are still too overwhelmed by hormones and mating urges to opt not to have sex or have any ability to make rational decisions about it.

I find the idea of not being able to prevent pregnancy in any way - not even by avoiding sex - to be completely horrifying.

The menstrual cycle may not be the most fun ever, but damn do I love both being sexually receptive at times when I'm not fertile and being perfectly capable of forgoing the baby-making kind of sex if am not on birth control or don't have a condom.
