And Drake isn't saying "Oi vey" in 'Coming Home.'

[personal profile] fingalsanteater 2013-12-18 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
It took an Arctic Monkeys cover to make me hear "baby," not "oi vey." I never questioned why I thought Drake would be saying oi vey.

Point is, I feel you on this.

Isn't Drake Jewish, though?

Him saying oi vey makes perfect sense if you take that into consideration.

I said exactly the same thing to a coworker on Saturday. You're not alone, OP, not like that helps you feel any better. It just makes two of us stupid.

Three. :/

Phil Collins' "No Son Of Mine"

(Anonymous) 2013-12-18 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, anon. For twenty fucking years, I thought the song was called "Genalsa" which meant absolutely no sense. Then one day I listened closely and heard "No Son of Mine" for the first time and it made a whole lot more sense.

Also thought a line in .38 Special's "Hold On Loosely" was "met you twelve years ago" when it's actually "left" (which definitely makes more sense).

Secret 4 - Miley Cirus - Wrecking Ball (song)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-18 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the singer Miley Cirus from the video of her song "Wrecking Ball". She is in her underwear throwing her head back and putting her hands to her hair looking distraught. There is a cracked wall behind her.]

I only just recently (today) realized that she says "I came in like a wrecking ball" and not "I came in like a rainbow". I haven't paid attention to the song and just mindlessly sang along, until I realized whenever I'd sing along, I never once sang the song's title. So I looked it up. ...and boy, do I feel stupid.

Don't worry, you're not alone in that kind of thing. :)

(Anonymous) 2013-12-18 12:34 am (UTC)(link)
I hate this song, and you just improved it exponentially.

I always thought it was "came in on the radio", so I never knew what the wrecking ball song was everyone made memes about, etc, too.

Are we posting our favorite dumb mondegreens? Because I still refuse to believe that Sting is not a pool hall ace with every step he takes.

I can easily believe this, and I didn't understand it at first either.

I think her music video would have been better if she had appeared on a rainbow tbh.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-18 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
You're not alone. It still sounds like rainbow to me.

[personal profile] elephantinegrace 2013-12-18 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
I always thought the line, "We'll carry on" was actually "We'll carry you" and I always laughed when the MCR song came on the radio.

That is precious OP. I caught my 11 year old singing don't fear the rainbow the other day and died laughing.

Cute secret!

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2013-12-18 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
That's kinda cool because now all I can think about with "I came in like a rainbow" is that she's the unicorn from Robot Unicorn Attack. SMASH EVERYTHING AND SPARKLES.

It's cool. My 7-18yr old self shot the sherry, but didn't shoot the depute until my dad asked me why I kept slurring sheriff and only did it in that song.

The ants are my friends; they're blowing in the wind.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-18 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
this isn't a misheard lyric but I never knew Toto's "Africa" as anything but "*incomprehensible gibberish* in AAaaafrica~"

(Anonymous) 2013-12-18 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
my 23 year old friend also heard this exact thing! she was belting in the car with her little brother and her brother just stops and says, "did you just say rainbow?"

also

(Anonymous) 2013-12-19 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
"All I wanted was to break your walls" or "all I wanted was to break your balls"

(Anonymous) 2013-12-20 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
"All you ever did was...ra-a-ape me!"

My brother heard the exact same thing!

Enunciate, Miley!
