Oh I completely agree. He's really a brilliant actor. I just fine him so believable. As you said, anytime he even starts getting teary-eyed or sniffle-y it engenders the same response in me. Can't help it.

I only know him from Merlin and a few other things (haven't been lucky enough to see him on stage. :( ) Even if you're not into Doctor Who, I'd really recommend the episode that he's in. There are some frankly gorgeous tears in that one. Ugh...

You talking about Midnight? That is probably one of my favourite episodes of the show. I already love bottle episodes, but every passenger there in that little bus was so good at ramping up all that horrible tension. It was terrifying! That and the Doctor hugging Donna at the end nailed it for me; I like when 10 makes it out by the narrow, but doesn't make it out emotionally dandy.

I know nothing about Dr Who. Should I watch this episode just for Colin?

(Which reminds me that I really should try watching it again.)

It's on a lot of people's "must watch" episode lists, but I don't think it works as a standalone. It subverts the way people typically react to the doctor (particularly when he's with a companion acting as a potential buffer between him and the public), and I think you'd have to have seen a few episodes beforehand just to notice and understand the difference. Defintely try rewatching again!

Or I'm just overselling it. Colin's part of the ensemble of people in that episode, so he doesn't end up getting a crazy amount of spotlight (but enough to sparkle!).

Yes! Midnight. Brilliant episode. As you said, the Doctor doesn't come out of that one unscathed. I love the dichotomy of a Time Lord being the one fighting for people to retain their humanity. It really was magnificently done by everyone, but Colin is my favorite in it. I hadn't watched Merlin before I saw that episode so I didn't know who played Jethro. I just knew that he impressed the hell out of me with that character. Plus he was easy on the eyes, and then the crying... broke me, it did.

Plus it was one where someone, and unnamed other human, had to step in and take a fall to save these strangers. And there was no closure as to what was going on, or why. Just more of breaking him down ha.

Oh, right! I forgot the character was called Jethro. See, I almost got distracted because all I saw was Baby Merlin. Hey, Merlin! You look like a teenager about to write some terrible poetry! Oh no what's going on D:
