Late reply (only just got my computer running again yesterday after it being dead nearly 3 weeks) but I feel it's worth saying that I too was really REALLY bored during the first movie, but that while the first 45 minutes or so of Desolation of Smaug felt like more of the same, it definitely picked up and was a lot more fun and enjoyable after that. It's still pretty patchy, but I would probably watch it again if it was on TV, whereas the first movie I have exactly zero interest of seeing a second time.
