Secret 1 - Fangirl (book)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover of the book "Fangirl" by Rainbow Rowell. It shows a woman on a computer fantasizing about two men being romantic together. A man approaches the woman and asks something.]

I liked this book. But I would never recommend it to anyone who hadn't had experiences with fandom beforehand. The fact that the 'fandom character' happens to come from a 'broken home,' have serious soxial anxiety and happens to be a 'cardboard cutouts and posters EVERYWHERE, obsessed fan' kind of rubbed me the wrong way. There was also the fact that a majority of her fanfic writing was focused on obsessively writing about a slash One True Pairing and how much the appeal of fanfiction was about her One True Pairing.

I'm not saying that people like her don't exist (she actually reminded me a lot of one of my bet friends who happens to have low self esteem, some emotional problems and ships Destiel quiet a bit (I'm not in the Supernatural fandom)). But she has strong hobbies and interests outside of fandoms.

I like fanfiction, I've written a little bit, I have One True Pairings (including slash ones). But I think people whose main reason to be fandom are GAY One True Pairings are kind of missing the point (more LGBT representation would be great, but some people just miss the point).

I have A LIFE OUTSIDE of fandom however. I'm not going to go and say that "OMG FANDOM SHOULD GET BETTER REPRESENTATION BECAUSE THIS IS LIKE RACISM" because people who say that are douche rockets. I just wish this book didn't read like the author read two pages of Tumblr and based the character off of it.

I'm so sorry for the wall of text.

Secret 2 - Anne Neville, The White Queen (historical drama TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Anne Neville, as portrayed by Faye Marsay, from the British historical drama TV series "The White Queen". She is a woman with light skin, blue eyes, long brown hair pulled back and wearing an expensive-looking royal golden dress and a big pendant.]

I felt like the series exaggerated her importance as a historical figure. There's no way she was as influential as Margaret Beaufort or Elizabeth Woodville. We barely know anything about her and it's ridiculous to make up a cool story and imply the series is some triumphant tale about powerful women in history.
Edited (Thank you, anon!) 2013-12-20 18:22 (UTC)

Secret 3 - Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen (actors)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the actors Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen standing together inside a kitchen behind a cooked turkey. They are both older men wearing matching black hats, smiling a lot and holding up a knife and a fork with one hand each, while the other arm is thrown around the other's back. They look ridiculously happy.]

My Thanksgiving didn't go so well but it makes me feel better to know that theirs did.

Secret 4 - Merlin (1998 TV miniseries)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-capture of the 1998 TV miniseries "Merlin". It shows Frik, as portrayed by Martin Short, holding a dying Morgan le Fay, as portrayed by Helena Bonham Carter.]

This is the most touching love story I've ever seen.

Notes

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 12:40 am (UTC)(link)
Both Frik and Morgan le Fay were made beautiful through magic by the fairy Queen Mab, and fell in love with each other. When Mab mortally wounds le Fay for rebelling, they both revert to their original, uglier forms, but they still call each other beautiful.

Secret 5 - Elementary (TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Joan Watson, as portrayed by Lucy Liu, and Mycroft Holmes, as portrayed by Rhys Ifans, from the TV series "Elementary", sitting together at a dinner table.]

I don't ship them but see no reason why fandom has to wail over the fact that they slept together. What has it "ruined", really? I trust that the writers wouldn't include this unless it was a key plot point later on, and I trust them to do a decent job because that's what they've done so far. Why can't people just calm the fuck down and wait and see before they proclaim that their beloved series is doomed?

Secret because: Fandom seems to either ship it or hate it.

Secret 6 - Whitechapel (TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Joseph Chandler, as portrayed by Rupert Penry-Jones, and Ray Miles, as portrayed by Phil Davis, from the drama TV series "Whitechapel"? They are two men, one looking older than the first, with rosy light skin and short brown and blond hair, respectively. They are both dressed in somewhat old-fashioned looking suits and looking serious.]

I think the last season of this show was undoubtedly its weakest, but I'm still gutted taht there won't be another series, because I want more father/son moments between these two.

Bonus secret: I don't get Chandler/Kent AT ALL, since in the show it's so one-sided.

Secret 7 - Grey's Anatomy

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Dr. Jackson Avery, as portrayed by Jesse Williams, and Dr. April Kepner, as portrayed by Sarah Drew, from the TV series "Grey's Anatomy". They're kissing inside a dark room (hospital office? Filing room?).]

Despite them repeatedly confirming that they're over each other, I still root for them to get back together. And I will be so disappointed if they don't.

Secret 8 - Legend of Korra

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a promotional image of the cartoon series "The Legend of Korra". It shows the titular heroine standing over a metal structure overlooking a city by the mountains. She is a young woman with dark olive skin, long brown hair pulled back, a slim, muscular build and wearing blue and brown clothing, some of which appears to be made of fur. She isn't wearing sleeves, but she has a few armbands.]

I feel like if an American (somewhat) mainstream 'children's' show was to be the first to feature LGBT representation, it would be this one. I hope this is the case, because that'd be pretty neat.

Secret 9 - Papa Pear Saga (facebook videogame), Doctor Who (TV series)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a screen-capture of the Facebook videogame "Papa Pear Saga". There is a cartoonish desert with palm trees, pyramids, a sun, colored pots and a cloud with eyes and/or faces. The cloud is wearing a fez and looking fairly chill.]

He [chill fez cloud] reminds me of Eleven.

Secret because: I play a lot of Facebook games, this surely is the lamest one. (I think the Doctor would like it though...)

Secret 10 - The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones (movie), Godfrey Gao (actor)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the actor Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane in the movie "The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones". He is a man with light olive skin, short black hair, gray or possibly brown eyes? and a slight mustache and beard. He is wearing a black cloak and looking at the audience in a sort of mysterious and possibly threatening way. There are the words "AN INSTRUMENT OF CHAOS" and "WARLOCK" around him, along with a rune and the date "August 23", just above the website "TheMortalInstrumentsMovie.com", and various other movie company logos.]

He was the worst thing about the movie. He had no emotion or intonation - it sounded like he'd just gotten the script ten minutes ago.

Bonus Secret: I actually loved the movie, and am excited for the next one. Everyone else seems to hate it. Am I doing it wrong?

Secret 11 - Girl's Generation / SNSD (Korean musical group)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Kwon Yuri, Tiffany Hwang and Jessica Jung of the Korean musical group "Girls' Generation" / "So Nyeo Shi Dae" / "SNSD" / "Shōjo Jidai". They are all young pretty girls with light to light olive skin, wearing pretty clothes, Kwon Yuri has long dark hair, Tiffany Hwang has long brown hair, and Jessica Jung has long, wavy dark blond hair.]

I'm really starting to dislike these three. [Kwon Yuri] She's relying too much on the backing tracks and her voice is suffering. [Tiffany Hwang] She goes WAY over the top in attention grabbing, ad-libbing extra lines and trying to be "Rapper Hwang". [Jessica Jung] She's lazy and unprofessional, and it isn't cute.

Secret Because: These are three of the most popular members, and I wouldn't be considered a "true" Sone if I admitted to not worshipping them all as flawless divine goddesses.

Sone = what fans of this group call themselves.

Also, thank you for the identifying info, OP!

Secret 12 - Real Person Shipping, Les Miserables (theatre play)

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-12-20 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is actors Anton Zetterholm and Rob Houchen from the theatre play "Les Miserables". Anton Zetterholm has light olive skin and blond hair reaching his neck. He is wearing a v-necked brown T-shirt. Rob Houchen has light skin and blond hair combed backwards. He is wearing a fabric hat? and a black sweater, looks like. Anton Zetterholm is playing a guitar and they're both laughing. They're sitting somewhere indoors.]

I want to see/read him [Anton Zetterholm] dominating the fuck out of him [Rob Houchen].

Secret Because: Apparently Real Person Shipping is categorically not approved of in theatre fandoms.
