ha, this.

I really don't get what this secret is getting at. I'm not familiar with what the secret is referring to, but I assume it's not MEANT to be representative. However, in my experience, there are many, many people in fandom are like this. Not all or even most, but more than enough that this isn't an unfair portrayal of fangirls.

Sounds a bit like 'I'm sooo much better than those losers. How dare they have anxiety disorders and a rough time and use fandom for escapism? God, I have a LIFE.'

I wonder if their one of those people that don't realize that the reason fandom has so many people with mental disorders is because it's a escapist activity with some social aspects that you don't have to have direct contact with people to participate in.

It's like violent video games in that way. I will probably never stop being amazed at how many people don't grasp how simple correlations work.

They are talking about the book Fangirl (I have it on hold at the library...so excited about reading it. This secret just makes me want to read it more.)

What always cracks me up are the people who get on the internet bb's, and angrily denounce the other posters for "wasting their lives on the internet posting about fictional characters", who then invariably get butthurt when someone points out that they're on the internet posting about fictional characters.
