what is this

Ugh. I hate when people assume something has to be representative of the whole. It's a book about a girl in fandom. It doesn't have to be a shining example or perfect for everyone (which is impossible). It just has to ring true to the story and for the author.

And there is no point to fandom. People playing around with characters one way is not missing the point, even if it's different than the way you enjoy playing around with characters.

And honestly, I don't think anyone would actually be interested in this book if they didn't know about fandom in general. That's kind of the target audience, so I don't' know why you'd even bother with the whole "I wouldn't rec" part.

This happened in one of my fandoms too... people got mad at the fan author because she hadn't written about their experiences, but this person's experiences were closer to mine - less LJ related and more website related, that sort of thing. There's no right or wrong, but you have to accept that different people have different experiences.
