Sometimes fandom isn't fun. Sometimes working on your WIP feels like an obligation. That's just another side to fandom.

Also seriously, did you miss everyone else pointing out that the author is IN fandom, has a tumblr, and was writing about (partly) their experiences?

I'm seeing people in this thread saying that. What I've heard previously was that the author is a YA pro author who decided to write a book about fandom and lurked in Teen Wolf for three months.

I don't know. I just know I didn't like the book.

I went looking and apparently she was involved in HP fandom, both reading and writing fic, which is what the fandom in the book is loosely based on. She's been an enthusiastic fan of other things but came to internet fandom a bit late (I'm guessing HP was her first foray into internet fandom). So yeah, drawing from her own experience in fandom for the book.
