I will never be over the fact that this fandom hates Gemma (and has hated her way before she killed Tara). One of the many reasons I stay away from the fandom despite loving the show. But then again we're talking about a fandom still likes Jax Teller who's pretty much the worst ever.

It's so weird. I mean, of course Gemma is an absolutely TERRIBLE person, but everyone on this show is various degrees of terrible. Jax most of all. And Gemma is one of the most interesting characters on the show, but somehow she gets all the hate.

gemma has always been a shitty human being who has manipulated everyone around her to her whims and doesn't even seem to realize her grandchildren are going to grow into that same shitty life her son has lived. she fills her mouth with shit about 'the family' and how important it is, and so far she's killed a husband, married the guy who helped in the murder, made her son kill him (because that was her intention when she gave jax the letters) and now killed the only person in charming that tried to save her grandkids from this mess, and the last good thing about jax. she's a selfish piece of shit.

The fandom hated Gemma? I always felt it was the other way around. Everyone liked her because she was 'badass'.

From what I've seen it's mostly Jax/Tara shippers (who somehow think that relationship is ~true love~ and not a horrible unhealthy mess) who despise anyone who comes between them. And Gemma always had a habit of coming between them.

I always saw more people hating on Tara, because they thought what she was doing was stupid (especially during the last season).

I suppose it depends on the fandom corner you're in. I was always indifferent to Tara until season 6 when I finally LIKED her. It was the first time she was making smart, responsible decisions (up until the last two episodes) instead of making one dumb choice after the other for her amazing epic love with the violent murderous biker dude who ruined her life.

ITA. I love this show but I have no illusions about any of the characters. I disliked Tara for willingly re-entering that world, but I began to like her when she decided to get the kids out of that life. The best that I hope for now is that Jax, Gemma and the others all die or go to prison for life, and the kids get adopted by a nice normal family.
