Also, I think movie-only and purist tend to stay in their own corners of fandom. The movie fandom is a lot bigger and more active. Most people I've met here are really welcoming and kind.

Sometimes I take a peek at the Tolkein-purist part of fandom because they write a lot of interesting meta about characters, the background of middle earth and all that. And the only fic I'll read from this section is Estel (young Aragorn living in Rivendale with Elladan and Elrohir) but that's about it, I'm more of a LotR/Hobbit movie fan than anything in the books.

The most active part of fandom is Desolation of Smaug, which is movie only people.
