With the exception of Star Wars, has any franchise ever done the "Oh, it turns out the parent who died long before the first installment is actually alive" twist well? It's the one thing keeping my enthusiasm for the rest of the Kung Fu Panda movies from being completely unbridled.

I have no problem with Po's father being alive, but then again I don't think his being alive is a slam against adoption, so...

Neither do I. I'm just tired of the "dead parent who is secretly alive (and totally awesome)" trope.
