I know you're probably a troll but I'm really amused by the idea of you being some sort of titan rights activist.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-21 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
There are a lot of us that are rooting for the titans. Maybe not the regular titans, but the shifters. And I can assure that we aren't trolls. But when your favorite characters are titans, you want them to scucceed.

da

But... what do they really want? And why? And do they really want to complete whatever goal they have or they are just following orders because they have to?

God I hate this fucking fandom.

Reiner and Ymir are two of the most interesting (and better) characters, deal with it.

'I like these characters and find them interesting' =/= 'I want them to succeed in exterminating humanity'

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 12:12 pm (UTC)(link)
My poor brainwashed sheep. 13 volumes and you still believe the church and government lies. In case you didn't notice, no, the people living inside the walls aren't the only human beings left alive. There are more people out there. So no, killing the people inside the walls doesn't equal killing humanity.

Plus there's nothing wrong with rooting for villains. That's why fiction is great you can sympathize with whoever you want and no one will be harmed because none of the characters exists.

God I hate this fucking fandom.

Back in my day people at least tried to be original and have their own ideas.

Oh. Okay. Let me amend that.

'I like these characters and find them interesting' =/= 'I want them to succeed in killing millions of people'

My poor brainwashed sheep.

Well, maybe you should stop brainwashing your sheep.

DOWN WITH SHEEP OPPRESSION!

I know, right? Pfft, moral grayness and complexity, what's that? I like this character, so nothing they do is wrong and they should win!

Were as, y'know, if they liked these characters at all they'd realise that none of them really WANT to kill any more people and therefore wanting them to 'succeed' is goddamn stupid.

Well you know, it is typical fandom. That a villain can do literally (LITERALLY) fucking anything but as long as they are sad about it, people will still love and support them. ;------; Poor babies. They are the real victims you know.

The fucking shifter sympathy in this fandom is unreal.

SUPER SPOILERS, YO

[personal profile] blunderbuss 2013-12-22 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
No kidding. I can understand if someone wants to make an AU where none of that ever happened so everyone can be friends and no one dies, and that's cool.

But in the story itself? Look, I feel terrible for them, I do. And they ARE victims, in a certain sense, because they were only ten when they took down Wall Maria and they've obviously been brought up as child soldiers. But none of that excuses what they've WILLINGLY chosen to do especially now that they're old enough to know better.

It just pisses me off that some people cannot accept moral ambiguity. And I love it when a series has lots of shades of gray but you try telling the damn fans that.

Well, the thing with moral ambiguity is that people will use that as an excuse to say NO ONE is the bad guy, that EVERYTHING is ambiguous. That everyone is arguably on the same level... somehow. Without understanding that there is real nuance and maturity in looking at someone and saying "I sympathize with you deeply, but what you did was still wrong and you have not yet payed for it." (Sorry fandom, feeling really, really bad about something isn't necessarily payment.) THAT is hard.

The way people act you think that there was going to be some reveal that would totally justify the deaths of 100,000+ people at the hands of the Shifters. Really guys. Do you really think that's gonna happen. Are you going to pretend ~we just don't know~ their side, and therefor we can't possibly judge them?

Oh are you serious. Even if it was revealed that the Titan Trio were heavily brainwashed since kids so that they're loyal to the cause no matter what or that it was really totally necessary to attack Wall Maria, ALL THOSE PEOPLE WERE STILL MURDERED. You can do something for a good reason but still not make all of those deaths okay! For fuck's sake it a goddamn theme of the series, talking about whether or not sacrificing people is acceptable for the common good or not.

Goddammit even fucking BERTHOLDT said that there is nothing they can possibly do to atone for what they've done and that they don't deserve forgiveness, and as much as I feel for him HE'S TOTALLY RIGHT. Even getting caught and executed wouldn't really make up for what he's done.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
So tell me, there are two sides here, why should I choose humanity when I feel no attachment to them? Just because of muh morality, muh humanity?

The unreal things here is that people like you get so butthurt about other readers' opinion and stance about a non-existant conflict. Relax.

[personal profile] blunderbuss 2013-12-22 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
Uh. I can understanding feeling sympathy for them and hoping that they can find a way to escape their terrible destiny, but let's not forget that these people are directly responsible for the deaths of THOUSANDS of innocent people and their 'success' equals THE EXTINCTION OF HUMANITY.

Seriously, I love this series for making even genocidial child soldiers be sympathetic and realistic people, but there's a massive gap between that and wanting them to WIN.

(Anonymous) 2013-12-22 01:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.
Like... Annie is one of my favorite characters and I feel for her, BUT the way she killed those soldiers on her way to get Eren was just CRUEL. She played with them. I just can't say that she's one of the "good guys".

Ymir is more complicated, because she didn't have control most of the time... so I get putting her into the "good" category. Same with Eren, who can control it to an extend and never killed another human.
