All of this.

The Oscars on a whole are a joke now.

I mean, I generally like them sometimes, but there's so much politics involved that it's never REALLY picking the best movie/actor/etc. Like Argo winning last year; I saw it, and it was a fine movie. But would it have been picked if people didn't think Ben Affleck had been snubbed?

I think the nominations are generally good guidelines of some of the best movies of the year (despite Avatar getting nominated...), but the winners aren't always representative.

I will watch the Oscars, but they really are politics that don't have much merit in what movie/actor etc is the best. I always just picture a bunch of older people in a room drinking wine and eating cheese, while looking at a big white board that says "who needs more Oscars and who we owe an Oscar to." Then it all comes down to picking names out of a hat.

I do think they are good guidelines, like you said, but I don't think winning an Oscar is such an exalted award as they make it to be.

My mom and I only watch the Oscars for the dresses, really. :D

The before and after shows are the best :)
