Spoilers for Last Exile: Fam the Silverwing

[personal profile] tasogare_n_hime 2013-12-22 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
For those who might not know: Prester= The massive hourglass shaped space colonies the people of Earth fled to when everything when to shit on Earth.

Fam is a key to one of the Exiles, something she inherited from her grandmother’s side of the family. The people of the Prester Fam’s ancestors came from(maybe the one the people of Chaos/Keos came from too) were attacked and quickly annexed into the federation. The nobility of that Prester were able to hide the identity of the Exile’s key, and no one knew who they were until Sadri married Raha’s mother. Several months after the wedding when his father-in-law finally decided he was trustworthy, he told Sadri the truth, and passed the mysterion on to him making him swear to keep it secret. Even after the man died and the knowledge certainly would have helped his carrier Sadri kept his word. Raha was around 12 when her mother passed away from an illness, Sadri was away on a campaign, and didn’t return in time. The indecent widened an already large rift between father and daughter.

Raha left shortly before Farahnaz’s mother the previous Augusta/Maestro died, Farahnaz’s mother felt the only way to create peace was to conquer the other nations and take control of all the Exile Keys. Sadri fearing for his daughter, who was still unaware of her connection to one of the Exiles let Raha leave, still remaining silent about what he knew. When Farahnaz took over she immediately began trying to unite the people through diplomacy rather than force, only to be assassinated at the Grand Race.

Raha didn’t marry until after she had left the federation, only her husband, a sky pirate, knew who she really was.

By the time Fam delivers the cease fire message to him, Sadri, still not knowing his daughter’s fate had already decided he needed to take the secret of the Exile to the grave. This view was only strengthened by Liliana’s death, and his feelings of responsibility and guilt in allowing what Luscinia had done, led him to remain behind in the Grand Exile. After his death Fam is able to learn more about her family, but never learned the truth of her own connection to the Exiles.
