How do you tumblr?

How do you find people to follow on tumblr? Just search tags and hope to find good people? Is there some secret to finding people?

I look through tags of stuff I like, then when I find someone whose posted something cool, I check out their tumblr. If I like enough of the stuff they've posted there and they've not posted something that turned me completely off I follow them.

...Granted, I also tend to follow artists I like, and blogs that are comedy blogs so...you know. It might not work for other stuff.

Sometimes I find people from fandom tags, mostly I find people through people I always follow (reblogs and the like). For my fandom blog I basically raid the fandom's tag and follow anyone relevant.

That's how I've come across a lot of who I follow. I also ask people on other sites if they have tumblrs. If I enjoy talking to someone then chances are I'll like their tumblr too. I sometimes look at who the people I already follow have reblogged posts from and check out those blogs. I've found some good people that way.

I started off just following my friends, then if I saw them reblogging a lot from the same person that I liked, I would follow that blog (this is super easy now when you can just hover their name, see a sample of what they post, and click follow without going to their blog), went to a convention where everyone was trading URLs and gave mine to some people, went through tags and followed from there, actually started talking to people, made some more friends, and followed some recommended blogs.
