Re: Elaborate ridiculous theories or headcanons you have

So, I stuck this in a secret I already submitted, so saying it here may get me not-secreted, but:

Tauriel has red hair. Red hair is really, really rare in Tolkien elves. So maybe she's descended from one of the elves in Middle-earth known to have red hair, a group which to my knowledge consists of Maedrhos, Amrod, and Amras.

Amrod and Amras (assuming he survived Losgar) spent a lot of the First Age kicking around East Beleriand with no older brothers supervising them and plenty of Moriquendi around. Maybe one of them -- I'm going to say Amrod, since he's not maybe-dead -- hooked up with a silvan elf. Maybe her people went back east over the mountains when the war heated up and she went with them, or maybe she left him over the Second Kinslaying and went as far east as she could to get away from people knowing her kid's red hair meant a blood connection to the Kinslayers. She settles with the Wood Elves in Greenwood the Great and the family fades into obscurity. Former Mrs. Amrod makes sure they keep their heads down when Sindarin Oropher and Thranduil arrive.

Time passes. Greenwood becomes Mirkwood and very, very dangerous, and almost all the family gets killed, leaving this little orphaned girl with no idea of her history and screaming red Kinslayer hair which you see nowhere else, and Thranduil's like, "..."

She's an innocent child and at least three-quarters silvan, one of the people he's responsible for as king -- he's going to take care of her. But like hell will he allow Kinslayer blood in his family.

If he doesn't want to say this, he is going to have to come up with a better excuse. Considering Mirkwood's population distribution, it's not terribly likely Legolas could find a girlfriend who isn't a wood elf. Ranging farther afield, Thranduil's the only elf in Middle-earth calling himself a king at this point in time.

Tauriel has no idea.

Dwarves always got along better with Noldor than any other kind of elf.

Anon approves of this comment (even though she hasn't seen the movie, yet).

Reminds me of how much fun I used to have contemplating all the Middle Earth family trees. At one point, I had some whole idea worked out about golden blond vs. silver blond hair in elves, but I really don't remember what that was all about. Probably something to do with Legolas' hair color in the movies.

I like this idea.

I like it because I love Maedhros and remember how Nerdanel and Mahtan's red hair was rare and how cool it was that Nerdanel passed it on to three of her sons.

So I am totally in support of Tauriel being Fëanorion and not knowing it (and no one has bothered to tell her that her unusual hair colour means something</>).
