(Anonymous) 2013-12-24 07:25 am (UTC)(link)To encourage shipping, there has to be sexual tension, taboo, anything that could intrigue the audience. With most F/M ships the audience already knows that as soon as the main female character shows up, she'll be handed over to the hero like a prize.
There's no mystery there, no place for creativity. Naturally, slash beats het because the characters we slash are usually not even part of a romantic narrative. Their relationships leave room for questions and speculation.
